The Story of Holtz Millworks

Generational legacy is core to who we are.  We want to remember the lives of those who have gone before us, honor those who are older than us and mentor those who will be here when we’re gone.  21 years ago my dad was my best man and today he still is.  He taught me the value of hard work, how to treat the love of your life, and what it means to be a great father.

Some of my cherished childhood memories include going to the wood shop with my dad.  He always had an intense love for wood crafting and my hope was that one day we would be able to work together. Dad served in the United States Marine Corps for 25 years and was married to the love of his life for 45 years.

Being in the leather business we love the idea of incorporating leather and wood. More specifically Tennessee Whiskey Barrel Wood ~ From Lynchburg Tennessee.  These white oak barrels have housed distilled goodness for 5-7 years. When you work with this wood it involves all your senses from touch to smell and at times even taste.  My dad crafted our first product back in 2016; hand turned, Jack Daniels Whiskey Barrel Pens. They were a hit then, and they are still a hit today! He still turns all of our pens, and we love having him around the shop!

As we’ve grown, we’ve seen more and more opportunities in other avenues. We are branching out (eh? Punny, no?) into other species of wood - beautiful, locally sourced hardwoods like walnut, maple, and white oak.

The reality of it is, we are always growing and changing - but our core is like these barrel staves -  strong, aged, and resolute in the task. We will continue to do things differently, to treat people right, to prioritize quality, and to keep family at the front of it all.

We hope the same for you! Stay strong, treat people right, but grow… and grow together.
