THE BRADFORD FRONT POCKET WALLET
The colony of Plymouth was founded in 1620 with the help of Willliam Bradford who governed the colony for more than 30 years. The difficult journey on the Mayflower took 2 months, where the colonists had to deal with harsh weather and difficult conditions. After arriving in Massachusetts, Bradford helped draft the colony’s legal code, he became the high judge, and took on the position of treasurer for the colony. He took part in what is considered the first Thanksgiving, was known for his meticulous record keeping, and was considered a tolerant and fair man.
Life In Plymouth
The first year of Plymouth colony was a difficult one. Plagued by a harsh winter and disease, the colonists made it to the first harvest feast (now known as Thanksgiving) with a brokered peace settlement with the Pokanokets, along with assistance from Squanto (also known as Tisquantum) to grow corn. Their main way of surviving was through farming, fishing, and trade.
